LBR Academy was created by Dr Jo Watkins and her husband Davey, to home educate their children while travelling the world. They call it the LBR Academy after the initials of the road they live on. This is a new online learning hub hosted by The HOW People offering courses and events to home educated children and families. 

The Watkins family are a complete mix. After years of world schooling, home educating and initially starting off in the school system, they now home educate Tom (8) and their other three children are in mainstream school while they are based in the UK.

 Tom Watkins (some people know him as Tom's Nature) is now 8 and has never been to full time school. He spent a year in nursery when he was 3, travelled the world when he was 4 (just after the photos above were taken) and has been home educated ever since. For the first 3 years of this, he followed his brother around and developed his love of nature and now, since his brother has chosen to start senior school, we've entered a different chapter.

We educate in a few different ways; a fantastic local teacher has him for one day a week, we use various brilliant online teachers (free and paid), do a bit of Maths each week and spend most of our time (Covid allowing) exploring, travelling, getting outside and learning from the world around us. 

There is no perfect way. What suits us might not suit you. We love building communities and putting the right brilliant educators and facilitators to young people so we thought we'd give this a go. 

The local groups meeting in person are great but sometimes the kids are a lot younger and we felt there was potential for us to bring a group together to learn more and try something out.
