Sleep, mindfulness and relaxation

Learning outcomes, videos and worksheets

A teaching session from The HOW People from their Know HOW course for Year 5/6 pupils. This can be delivered live with a teacher or GP in the classroom using the time in between each session for discussion.

Learning Objective: to understand the importance of a good night’s sleep and to give you the tools to relax and practice mindfulness.

The first part of the session looks at information about sleep and why we need it. There are opportunities to pause the video and discuss answers to the questions. It is at the teacher’s discretion how to split up these discussions in the classroom but the aim is to encourage sharing in the room once initial discussions have taken place. Timers are a guide but are a good way to get quick and productive discussions happening.

In the recording, each question is discussed with answers from the chat box.

The second part of the recording looks at what mindfulness is and its importance. This leads into breathing exercises followed by a guided meditation.

Note: This session doesn’t start with a movement activity due to mindfulness section. No worksheets during recorded session but work alongside.
